By using FreeTranscribe you agree to these terms. They are short because the service is simple: a web page that runs a speech-recognition model on your own computer.
The service
FreeTranscribe provides software that runs in your browser to convert speech in audio and video files into text. The service is free of charge and supported by advertising. We may change, suspend or withdraw it at any time without notice.
Your content
You keep all rights to the files you transcribe and to the transcripts produced. We never receive them, so we claim no rights to them. You are responsible for having the right to transcribe the recordings you use, including any consent required from people who were recorded.
Acceptable use
Do not use the site to interfere with its operation, to scrape or bulk-download the model files for redistribution, or to circumvent the advertising that funds it. Do not use transcripts to break the law or to infringe the rights of others.
Accuracy
Automatic speech recognition makes mistakes. Names, numbers, technical terms, overlapping speakers, background noise and strong accents all reduce accuracy, and the model can occasionally produce text that was never said, especially over silence. Review every transcript before relying on it. Do not use the output for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions without human verification.
No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not guarantee that it will work on your hardware, that it will be uninterrupted, or that it will be error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, FreeTranscribe and the people behind it are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the service or from the content of any transcript, including indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Third-party software
The service uses open-source components, including OpenAI's Whisper models (MIT licence), transformers.js (Apache 2.0), ONNX Runtime Web (MIT) and Mediabunny (MPL 2.0). Their licences and notices are listed in our third-party notices.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. The date at the top shows the current version. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, and disputes are subject to the courts there, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection you enjoy where you live.
